While the book itself was easy enough to comprehend, I wasn't too interested in the subject matter itself. The only reason I purchased it was for a college course. If you are looking for a good read on religions as a whole, I would recommend this book.

great for students

This book is a good guide for those seeking more enlightenment about the religious world. this book was my major resource for the religious studies course I was taking. It provides an overview for approaching the different aspect and dimensions of religion as a student of Religion Studies, or as a seeker of truth. The book though gets rather confusing when it refers to the many religions' practices and terminology which I am not accustomed to, thus to make the book more bountiful, I used in joint Huston Smith's book "The World's Religions".

Football fans will love this book but those who have battled mental illness will appreciate the honest account Haley gives. One of the best books of the year. Funny stories too, including one with George W. Bush and the Secret Service.

It's all here, if you can play the notes.

The songs in this book are dated from 1966 to 1976, though the book didn't appear until 1978. Neil Young has a long history in music, and it has been easy for other performers to pick up and do songs that have been scored as this book has, with a separate treble staff for the vocal parts, and chord charts for guitar chords throughout. A footnote at the beginning of "The Loner" explains how to make the guitar different, "Tune first and sixth strings to D (D A D G B D)" (p. 29) to play the chords in that song. This is not the same as "Sugar Mountain," "Tune all strings down one whole step to a D-based tuning." (p. 21).
I had an early video of his "Rust Never Sleeps" concert, in which Neil Young sat down by himself at a piano and played, note for note, the song "After the Gold Rush" as it appears on pages 54-57 of this book. The last page is mainly devoted to singing the line, "Flying Mother Nature's silver seed to a new home in the sun" twice, after "All in a dream, all in a dream the loading had begun." I realized that it would take a lot of preparation to get that far, but the time which I devoted to reaching that destination was some of the most worthwhile musical efforts that I have ever attempted.
There are 35 songs in NEIL YOUNG ~ DECADE. Fans of particular concerts, like WELD, might consider most of these songs very early in Neil Young's career. The book is copyright 1978, Weld didn't come along until 1991, and only includes "Cinnamon Girl," "Cortez the Killer," "Like a Hurricane," and "Tonight's the Night": only four of the 35 songs in this book. Fans of Buffalo Springfield might appreciate "Expecting To Fly," and people who sing harmony might see if matching the notes in the book is easier than trying to pick parts off the recorded version. The piano introduction for the song "Cinnamon Girl" has the kind of bass line that I find most interesting in the written music, jumping around slightly before it becomes the melody, and a vocal harmony is also provided. This book helped me learn how much is going on in music besides the melody. The complications for the song "Southern Man" take pages 58-61, while "Helpless" fits on pages 62-63 fine. I have a tendency to like songs called "I Believe in You," and the song on pages 64-66 asks the question like he is really worried about "Am I lying to you when I say that I believe in you?" "Oh, oh" coincides with "la la la la" after that.
Then we get "Heart of Gold" on pages 71-73, "Ohio" on pages 74-75, "Old Man" on pages 78-81, "Harvest" on pages 90-94, "The Needle and the Damage Done" on pages 96-99, and I already mentioned some of the more recent numbers. The last song in the book is "Long May You Run" from 1976, suggested for Bright Country Style. You might have heard a few of the other songs in the book, but these are the ones I think you ought to play, if you want to learn something. I hope you can play them better than I can.

Neil Young Decade Guitar CHORD Only Songbook

Just rec'd my second copy ever of this song book. I have an original that I've held together somehow all these many years. It's amazing they crammed all these songs into this rather small 7"x5" almost hymnal type book. But for someone familiar with the songs contained in this book, and like me, just need refreshing their brains when playing. This book is ok. The depth and detail of the original book isn't here. You get the melody line on top of each page, the chord structure below, then lyrics with chord lettering over each change up. And also a note if there is a tuning change, and that's about it. So this IS NOT the original book published back in the 70's. At least it doesn't match up with mine. But you can learn the chord structure and get a pretty good idea about the song. No tab if that is what you are looking for either. I'm glad I still have my original. For the life of me I cant understand why they didn't just copy the original. They are using the Original books cover and name...
Added note from original review.. The songs in this song book Decade, are exactly the same songs on the two album Record/CD Neil Young Decade. I'll assume if your looking at this you have the album or CD or wouldn't be looking at this. Grade 5-8–When their parents disappear, twins Marty and Grace, 13, are taken in by their Uncle Travis, who searches the world for supposedly mythical creatures. After a parachute fall from an airplane, the kids find themselves in the middle of the Congo, where a surviving dinosaur may still exist. While their conservationist uncle tries to rescue the children, an evil cryptid hunter who kills species rather than saving them pursues the creature. Marty and Grace each have distinct, if not terribly complex personalities, and their adventures are quite absorbing. The first part of the story moves fairly slowly as the characters and the concept of cryptozoology are introduced. Once the twins hit the jungle, though, things get exciting. Along with the atmospheric setting, narrow escapes, and ruthless villains, a couple of neat personal revelations are woven into the tale, affecting nearly everybody involved. Both kids show courage and ingenuity as they try to survive the wild and avoid being captured. Marty's photographic memory provides a vehicle for presenting many facts about the environment without detracting from the tale. Grace is more introverted as she conquers her fears and discovers a life-changing revelation about her past. Things go awry, however, when an accident plunges Marty and Grace into the middle of the Congolese jungle. Soon the henchmen of the evil Noah Blackwood are pursuing the twins. The action is nonstop in this well-paced jungle adventure, and Smith adds a deeper layer in scenes of Marty and Grace discovering truths about their complicated family relationships. - a really good book

Grace and Marty are at a boarding school when they find out that there parents are dead. They are then forced to go live with there uncle Travis that they didn't even know existed. Uncle Travis lives on an island and he is big into crypto zoology.

On a trip to find the last living dinosaur on earth, they run into big problems. They have to fight to survive out in the middle of the jungle. Throughout there journey, Grace and Marty reveal some long hidden secrets about there Uncle Travis. Brave and daring, they end up leaving the jungle safely, with the bad guys left behind.

I really liked this book because it keeps you reading. You get to some good parts in the book and you don't want to stop. This would be a great book to come out with a sequel. Another reason I really like this book is because I really like adventure books, and this book is full of adventure.

THIS BOOK IS THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ. IT'S FULL OF MYSTERY AND ACTION. IT'S FUNNY! THE MAIN CHARACTERS ARE GRACE AND MARTY WHO ARE TWINS AND NEAR THE END OF THE BOOK THERE IS A BIG SUPRISE! THEIR UNCLE WHO THEY GO TO LIVE WITH IS ACTUALLY GRACE'S.... YOU'LL HAVE TO READ IT TO FIND OUT.

Good start, but weak finish

Cryptid Hunters had a promising start with the twins, their mysterious uncle and adventure in the Congo. However, despite their parents' mysterious disappearance, the twins showed no anxiety or little curiosity as to their whereabouts or whether they were still alive. By the end of the book, the parents had been forgotten by everyone but this reader.

I thought Smith could have tied up loose ends and had an outstanding book, but as it is, I was disappointed by the weak finish.

Review of “AMAZING ADVENTURES OF THE TRAMP PRINCE: A Philosophic Fantasy”
In “AMAZING ADVENTURES OF THE TRAMP PRINCE: A Philosophic Fantasy”, the author, Hobo Jack Sophir, pokes fun at society and at all types of people in society while presenting his philosophies of smoking, drinking, healthful eating, war, social contract, responsibility, fun, the meaning of friendship, and more. Tramp Prince is always helped because he first helps others, a fact that may not be so obvious but is tremendously truthful about the way people react. The interactions always lead to important philosophical dialog in which points are made by both Tramp Prince and the people he meets. Hobo Jack has an awesome ear for every accent conceivable and an uncanny ability to spell them. While there are a couple of tragic episodes (never fear, good comes of them), this book is written in a mostly light-hearted manner and with much imagination, attention to detail, knowledge of the world, and understanding of topics close to Hobo Jack’s heart, making “AMAZING ADVENTURES OF THE TRAMP PRINCE: A Philosophic Fantasy” a delight to read indeed.

Great Read!

The Tramp Prince takes us on an adventurous journey through the land of the unknown, asking, “What is the meaning of life?” to everyone he meets along the way. Although each person answers differently, the Tramp Prince collects these words of wisdom and summarizes them into his own view of how he sees the world. From his viewpoint, the world is corrupt with hatred, waste, nutritional deficiencies, loneliness, and ect. His best friend, a toad in his pocket, probably lives better than most of the people he meets, since he’s given the ability to converse telepathically with the Tramp Prince. This book takes you on a journey that will have you asking what’s really important to you in your everyday life.

A lovely little fantasy written by a real life character. Hobo Jack's philosophical musings provide a welcome interlude from the self-obsessed, media-driven world of today. "Amazing Adventures of the Tramp Prince" is a thoughtful tome whose only short-coming is leaving the reader wanting more. Are you listening, Jack?

How many sports stories do you hear that end once the athlete wins the big game or achieves their goal of making it onto the championship team. The problem with these stories is that they end once the big game has been played or the athlete makes the team. It's like the big game was the peak of the athlete's career and their story ends once the game is over. You hear about the hard work and talent it took to win the championship but is that really where their story ends? After hearing one of these stories do you ever feel like this may only be the point where the athlete's real story begins... but their full life story is rarely told and you're left hanging, wondering what this success in sports will mean later in the athlete's life. Entrepreneur shows the reader what happens when a determined athlete looks at their retirement from sports as the beginning of their career instead of the end.
Does an athlete's willingness to work hard to succeed in sports end once they stop playing or can the values that brought their success in sports be used to achieve even greater things later in life? Does their success end once their athletic skills begin to fade or can they convert these values into entrepreneurial values that become a springboard for other things? The problem with most sports stories is that the story ends when the game is over. George Tinsley's story begins as a sports story but ends as a success story about business, community and family.

Jim Grebey has been able to leverage an analytic engineering background to become a leading business operations analyst. You WANT to live AFTER PRO BALL - read this

I was a high school classmate with George. This story is far more than what he now has - he struggled to get to here and yes there were good times, but there were HARD days - during a recent class reunion he shared how he watched the OJ Simpson "well known" bronco chase and they were both having a bad day - but for him, what he thought that day (a contract denied), ultimately became a blessing when he turned and bought another franchise, setting it on course to now be the #2 or #3 in the country. George is real, honest and vulnerable in sharing with what God has given him. If youth today would listen and take to heart what he shares they to can learn. YES, sports END. Sadly in this generation the rap sheets are longer than the stat sheets but injury and age also don't allow long term life in the spotlight. Many blow the money or use drugs - they are broke when it all ends. They need a PLAN - read, listen and be willing to start low, be teachable and you will be rewarded. George is real and can give you real life help if you will listen.
