MYTH-TOLD TALES is a collection of short stories by Robert Asprin and Jody Lynn Nye that introduce and set up the new Myth Adventures Series which launches in August 2003 with MYTH ALLIANCES!

About the Author
Robert (Lynn) Asprin was born in 1946. While he has written some stand alone novels such as Cold Cash War, Tambu, The Bug Wars and also the Duncan and Mallory Illustrated stories, Bob is best known for his series: The Myth Adventures of Aahz and Skeeve; the Phule novels; and, more recently, the Time Scout novels written with Linda Evans. He also edited the groundbreaking Thieves World anthologies with Lynn Abbey. His most recent collaboration is License Invoked written with Jody Lynn Nye. It is set in the French Quarter, New Orleans where he currently lives.

Better than some of the recent books in the Myth-Adventures series but still a far cry from the early genuinely funny novels

Myth-Told Tales is the thirteenth book in the Myth-Adventures series and the first of the series that is a collaboration between Robert Asprin, who created the series, and co-author Jody Lynn Nye, an established fantasy writer in her own right.

Myth-Told Tales is not a novel but a collection of three short stories:

(1) "Myth Congeniality" - Skeeve is drawn away from his studies to help Bunny win an inter-dimensional beauty contest in order for her to get the prize, something her Uncle, Don Bruce, the Fairy Godfather of the Mob, wants very much to get his hands on.

(2) "Myth Calculations" - Chumley, along with Guido and Tananda, investigate a pair of racketeers who are muscling in on the Mob's territory at the Bazaar on Deva

(3) "Myth-ter Right" - Aahz and Massha travel to the dimension Brakespear to help a friend and former ward of Massha's, Princess Gloriannamarjolie, win the Wylde Hunt, where the Princess is the object of the hunt and where the prize to be awarded is something apparently everyone wants to get their hands on.

Note: Judging by the other reviews, it seems like there may be different versions of this book out with different numbers of stories. The three stories I listed are in everyone's list, but the others are most definitely not in the book I'm reviewing, which is the Meisha Merlin 111 page edition.

Quality-wise, Myth-Told Tales is a step up from some of Asprin's more recent Myth-Adventures books, but still a far cry from his early ones in the series. The only story of the three which seemed to bring back some of the humor that really made the series popular was "Myth Calculations". There are a couple of forwards - one written by Asprin and one by Nye - that are mildly informative but in some ways they feel like padding for what is a very short book.

Recommended as a merely okay read in its own right but a marginally necessary one for continuity's sake as it sets things up for what happens in the next book in the series, Myth-Alliances.

I enjoyed this....long over due collection (if you can call three stories a collection) My only gripe is that with an $8 price tag I would have liked a little more book for the buck. It was good to see the characters back in action but.....a little more would have been nice. For true, die hard, fans only.

In the style of the previous Myth Link stories, this book offers other points of view besides that of the primary character, Skeeve. For anyone who has followed the adventures of Skeeve, Tananda, Aahz, Guido, and the rest, it is a must have. To those new to the series, it is a easy introduction.

I am taking a writing course, so I was encouraged by my instructor to purchase a writer's handbook. I have looked over a few, but most were either MLA or APA format but not both. The Essentials of English Writer's Handbook gives both formats as well as a comprehensive index of everything a writer would need to write outstanding essays.

I've bought this book because I'm taking a Writing course and my teacher has required it. It seems to be a very good book, with a very diversified content and good "Special Tips" boxes, which have very good explanations and observations. I'm very happy with my purchase, even though I think it should have more practice exercises, I recommend "The Essentials of English" for those who want to learn more about English writing.

Coherence Is What Makes Us Human Beings

What if poetry were written for the sake of butter. And I'm thinking mainly of butter, how it coagulates on the plate when you leave it out with the dirty dishes. You're wanting to put off the dishes. Just for a little bit. And the butter is like, OK. Now it is butter coagulating. The object correlative necessary to consider how coherence is a process, our understanding of coherence is not so neat and tidy as we'd like to think. Are you thinking about water, and the water gathering in small places and large places? That's one form of cohering.

Another is the impulse in animals to gather around death. And acknowledge some strange difficulty that everyone is having together about this one event. Look at how elephants do it. It's easier to think of it when elephants are doing it, because when people do it our peopleness keeps getting in the way of us seeing the natural fact of the matter.

This is Amy Lawless's book. And if you don't believe me, then the act of coherence is likely more complicated in you. And you should try out her sonnets. I must point out the cover shows Jim Sukach is the author- Not Corvino, its a mystery as to how anyone could miss the clue on the cover (just joking) My younger sons enjoy these easy mystery stories where the smallest clues are sometimes the most important clue of all.

Using important, previously unpublished material and original interviews with a range of individuals, both British and Yemeni, who lived through this defining period of colonial history, Without Glory in Arabia tells the story of the final few years of British rule in Aden and the neighboring Eastern and Western Aden Protectorates. While some view British rule, on the whole, as beneficial to the local population, others insist that very little was achieved. Worse, Britain did not provide a structure of government constitution which met the conflicting needs of Aden and the Protectorate. About the Author

John Ducker was in the British Overseas Civil Service in Aden and the Protectorate from 1960 to 1967, then moved to the World Bank.

Peter Hinchcliffe is an Honorary Fellow of Edinburgh University where he teaches Middle East History and Politics. He was with the British Overseas Civil Service in Aden and the Federation of South Arabia which provides the background to and inspiration for Without Glory in Arabia. His other publications include Jordan: A Hashemite Legacy, Conflicts in the Middle East since 1945.

Maria Holt is a Research Fellow in the Centre for the Study of Democracy, University of Westminster.

An Apprpriate Desceiption of Labour Government in the Mid-Sixties

The closing years of British presence in South Arabia were remarkable for the lack of vision an aptitude on the part of Laour government that came into power in 1964. The authors capture a glimpse of the scale of damage the myobic decision of Wislon's government has caused not only to South Arabia but also to the British reputation as steadfast friends.

The authors, from their prespective, have done a good job of describing the shameful abandonment of friends in Arbia but fail to describe fully the inculcable damage such shameful policies have brought to the people of the Federation of South Arabia and Aden.

On the whole, however, the book is a good read and I find the title is atelescopic summary of the end of the British Empire.
