Good story. Needs editing.

Okay. First of all, as a fan of horror and zombies, I want to say that the story was good. It flowed well, with a good, satisfying, politically charged ending. Some of the military aspects threw me off, especially the parts about introducing soldiers to superior officers, the dialogue about the gas masks, and the talk about the weapons when the soldiers are first inserted. I speak here from an American military view; it is entirely possible that things are done differently by our comrades across the pond.

That being said, the dialogue is hard to follow. No, characters aren't throwing around ten dollar words that one has to reach for a dictionary to determine what the characters are talking about. There are no carriage returns between speakers. It was easy to get off track with which characters were currently speaking. In many parts of the book there were also places where it seems as if a sentence was revised but the sentence being replaced was not removed. Some typos, phantom punctuation, all mistakes that I feel would be easily remedied with even a cursory examination by an editor.

That being said, Smith has a hell of a story. I felt like it could have been a lot longer than it was, but he got right to the point with it which was nice. It was a fast read, I finished it in a couple of hours.

If you love a good zombie story make sure to read Dead& Alive

Were should i start ?
I love zombie stories, and never miss a good one. This zombie story mixes succesfully a military background story and the human aspect of disperation and survival . The pace of the entire story is fast, and you will just kep your eyes on the pages because you want to know what will happen next.
It is imposible not to fel for our hero , Jack and his team, the human interaction is fun , the characters are well written and vivid. It is a story that shows the evil dark side of the human race, versus the good side, and that under pressure some people that seam weak may get stronger and surprise us. I know that Frank was not the actual hero, but when you read this book i am sure that you will enjoy his evolution .
So, if you love a good zombie story, you should not miss this one !

The zombies are the least of the problems!

Dead & Alive: Survive is a fast paced novel about a particularly brutal zombie apocalypse. After a missile of unknown origin explodes over England, a deadly virus claims the lives of most of the inhabitants and the country is abandoned and sealed off to the rest of the world. A military platoon is assigned to a dangerous mission to purportedly rescue a scientist trapped on the main land who might hold the secret of neutralizing the virus and reclaiming England as a habitable country once again. When the platoon, lead by an inexperienced corporal who is supported by seasoned war veteran Jack, is dropped off in London a few blocks from the building where the scientist is staying, all hell breaks lose. The city is filled with a very deadly and aggressive race of zombies. The mission quickly becomes a fight for survival against formidable odds. It doesn't help that the surviving humans are lead by a band of bloodthirsty degenerates intent on rape and pillage and who in ways are worse than the zombies. It soon becomes apparent that the mission is not what it was represented to be by the military authorities, and the members of the platoon may actually be expendable. Peril threatens from all sides, and no one is to be trusted! Non-stop action, interesting characters,and unexpected plot twists make this book an enjoyable read. Dead & Alive: Survive is a compelling first volume in what promises to be a very entertaining series.

This book absolutely wrecked me in the best way possible

This book absolutely wrecked me in the best way possible. I read it all in one setting, just like I did with the first book, Undiscovered Gyrl. I pray that this book gets made into a movie as well. Allison Burnett is a literary genius and I can guarantee that I will not be sleeping tonight after reading it. Another Girl answered some of my questions from the last book, but left me with more questions than before. I would recommend Undiscovered Gyrl, Another Girl, and the movie Ask Me Anything to absolutely anyone. They're all incredible.

Sequel was well worth the wait

I've been waiting a long time for a sequel to Undiscovered Gyrl, and this did not disappoint. I devoured the whole thing in one sitting. I had to remind myself that the story wasn't real, but anyone who read the previous book knows how good Allison Burnett is at writing realistic female protagonists. Hopefully this one becomes a film too!

'When I don’t understand something, I tend to overthink it until my anxiety is out of control.’

Allison Burnett is able to absorb every facet of his created characters so completely that each of his books gives the reader the feeling that the first person narrator is the actual writer. Visit his previous books - CHRISTOPHER: A TALE OF SEDUCTION and THE HOUSE BEAUTIFUL - and try to be convinced that the idiosyncratic characters are not real and writing their own memoirs. In UNDISCOVERED GYRL Burnett further challenge himself by writing a novel in the first person who happens to be both a girl and a female artifice created by the media we now live by - the Internet. He manages to make this Katie creation so credible that her incredibility works! Who is she really - spoiled mouthy high school graduate or the femme fatale she creates with the device of the blog? Because a film was made of this latter book Allison has written a brief but pungent sequel – ANOTHER GIRL.

Burnett's writing style is so fluid that he makes this initially wild idea for a novel capture the reader's attention and makes us go along with the preposterous shenanigans of a character about whom we know little except for the persona she manufactures, scratching our heads at times trying to figure out how the deception will play out, while most of the time just voyeuristically going along for the ride. He knows his craft and after his sojourns into the edgy worlds of his previous two novels, he has the guts to pull us further into those places most of us only silently peek at as we surf the Internet.

As the synopsis states,’ Katie decides to defer from college for a year saying she doesn't know what she wants to do in her future, but in reality is exploring her sexual options. She creates an anonymous blog detailing the different aspects of her life but especially highlighting her sexual activity. She gets involved with numerous men at once and is forced to make difficult decisions regarding her future that she didn't expect to make so soon in her life.’

Though very short (only 53 pages) it is completely entertaining both as a story and as a real examination of where we are now in this distorted world of quasi-real communication and identities! Highly recommended. Grady Harp, August 15
