Fascinating look at the practice of spiritual direction

While researching a novel on Opus Dei, a Catholic organization which places great importance on spiritual direction, I came across this Kindle book, written by a highly regarded priest of the Prelature.
It's a gold mine. Beautifully written, and infused with a spirit of warmth and compassion, THROUGH WIND AND WAVES is an open window into the particular concerns and methods of spiritual directors working in the Opus Dei tradition. It clearly demonstrates how the firm principles of spiritual growth expounded in the writings of Opus founder Josemaria Escriva are being promulgated in the frank, intimate context of spiritual direction.
This is not to suggest that the book is relevant only to members of Opus Dei. Fernandez-Carvajal draws from a wide variety of sources, including Scripture and the doctors and saints of the Church, to explain and reinforce his suggestions. Anyone interested in spiritual direction will find valuable insights here.
The book is scholarly but never pedantic. It is exhaustively footnoted, with substantial quotations.
An important and inspiring text for students of the topic.
