Random assortment of information; the FRCOphth exam is the only reason this book has survived to its fourth edition.

Somehow this book has become one of the standard reference texts for the part 1 FRCOphth examination. Despite this, it is not a very well compiled text, and contains a somewhat random assortment of information that doesn't make for very nice reading. It's really quite a mess. I think it's a shame that the FRCOphth folks haven't abandoned this text and instead switched to the AAO Fundamentals & Principals of Ophthalmology book from the BCSC series as their standard reference for the exam, which is updated annually and is a much nicer read.
